HISTORY OF LAS FORTUNAS

The decline of ancient civilizations was the trigger for the last war, which unleashed the cataclysm that would mark the end of all nations, and that would also wipe out ninety-two percent of the planet’s species.

The greatest period of peace humanity had ever known could only give way to the briefest, most toxic and most destructive battle of all, and as the old world crumbled seven city-states emerged in The Fortunes archipelago; Tyterogaka, Maxorata, Tamarán, Achinech, Ghomara, Benahoare and Eceró.

The leaders of the seven city-states, united by the iron commitment to safeguard the inhabitants of the archipelago, promoted the construction of the greatest engineering work ever seen to date, the belt of Atlas; a mega-device that allowed Las Fortunas to isolate itself from the rest of the world for years to come.

While life abroad faced the wrathful forces of nature, in The Fortunes its inhabitants were forced to face the growing scarcity of resources.

Scholars from all over the world did their best to gather all the knowledge that had not been buried along with entire cities. The Achinech Library was built in an effort to protect literature, and the Tamaran University as a breeding ground for the brightest minds. By the time the archipelago was able to open its doors to the world, it had become the new cradle of civilization.

New studies carried out in the field of genetics allowed scientists in The Fortunes to replicate the DNA of extinct creatures and bring them back to life, opening the way to endless possibilities, benefiting all kinds of markets; from food to pharmaceuticals, through pets and entertainment.

The genetic revolution gave way to a robotic revolution, which, driven by several discoveries, allowed the manufacture of androids for domestic use and replacement biocomponents that promised to improve the quality of life of all citizens. But the high production costs and the rise of families made many people willing to sell their freedom in exchange for a skull or a bionic arm.

Faced with this wave of opportunities, magnates from all over the islands invested their fortunes in a new sport; the wargame, which soon became the most popular in the entire archipelago.
